What is eVOLUNTEERS?

In January 2007, Tejari and the Dubai Economic Department (DED) mounted an unprecedented four-year campaign with the aim of converting 100% of businesses in Dubai online. This enormous task was undertaken by a joint Tejari and DED team including more than fifty interns dedicated to bringing new skills and greater online knowledge to the business community of Dubai.

This group of exceptional university students has worked with small, medium and large private enterprises and public sector departments to demonstrate the enormous advantages and benefits of e-commerce and give practical advice on how to succeed in the global knowledge-based economy.

As more and more of the World’s trading shifts online, businesses in emerging markets will need to learn essential electronic commerce skills ― to be ‘e-ready’ for the new global economy. Through fieldwork, direct telesales, and weekly training seminars conducted at Tejari, the young men and women in the team have so far activated a total of more than 8,000 businesses at an average rate of 60+ per day, giving an enormous boost to e-commerce in the region.

Next evolution of Tejari’s eVOLUNTEERS Program

eVOLUNTEERS has dramatically contributed to our business recruitment success and the e-readiness of the UAE. In the first year of this program, our team of 50 student interns has converted more than 10% of Dubai’s registered businesses to online trading – to be e-ready. A remarkable achievement on its own, be that as it may the eVOLUNTEERS have set their sights on greater goals with expectation of full achievement of 100% e-readiness in the end of the year 2010.

The internship program is recognized as the largest of its kind in the Emirate of Dubai and is well received by our University partners and students alike. It is our intention to introduce and encourage this program to our global franchise network with the hope that all emerging markets in our region will reap the same striking advances in e-readiness and Tejari’s entire network will experience the growth impact we have seen in Dubai.

We will also be looking to set up a centralized operations center staffed primarily with interns to support activations and business matching across our global network spanning 15 countries. The operations center will coordinate with local offices to have new members set up their online showrooms, to generate inquiries on trade leads, to find suppliers on ‘zero bid’ auctions, to match suppliers to tender notices, and to facilitate cross-border trading.

Who should apply to eVOLUNTEERS?

The active force behind eVOLUNTEERS is university students who are looking for a part time internship along with their studies or for a full time internship, whether mandated by their universities or of the student’s own accord. The applicant for eVOLUNTEERS should be currently registered in a university or have recently graduated from one.
